Cocoa sector on tenterhooks after John Dramani Mahama's election victory

The president and his National Democratic Congress party will shortly have to appoint a new management team at Cocobod, the cocoa sector's regulatory body. So far, they have been vague about their plans for this key economic sector, which is in the grip of a serious crisis.

West African leaders meet to address financial turmoil

West African Economic and Monetary Union heads of state are due to meet on 14 December to discuss the financial woes of the French-speaking economic organisation, which is burdened by a dearth of foreign currency, difficulties in borrowing on the markets and major unpaid debts.

West African security alliance faces uncertain future

Ghana, the driving force behind the Accra Initiative since its 2017 launch, has yet to secure funding for its planned military arm despite repeated requests to Western partners. And with Ghana's elections just days away, the regional security partnership's very survival is hanging in the balance.
