Al-Burhan's coup d'état comes at the worst time for Paris

The 25 October coup by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan occurred just as France had been planning key meetings with Khartoum throughout November. For Paris, like London and Washington, has been trying to get a foothold in Sudan. A Franco-Sudanese economic forum was scheduled in the capital at the end of November, during which discussions on debt cancellation were set to continue.
