From Cape Town to Gulf of Guinea, Brazilian giant Petrobras' African renaissance

Brazil's state-owned Petrobas is making a comeback in oil exploration in Africa. A host of countries are jockeying to attract the oil giant, which has however reportedly reduced its investment budget for 2025 by several billion dollars.

African issues set to dominate Commonwealth summit

At the Commonwealth summit at the end of October, an African national is set to take the helm of the body's secretariat. Of the three candidates in play, Ghana's Shirley Botchwey, who enjoys Kenya's support, appears to be the front-runner. The case of Gabon, which has been suspended from the organisation since August 2023, will be on the agenda.
